Who Are We?

Clarity Healthcare Consulting is headed by Julian Given, a healthcare professional with a wealth of experience and knowledge from within the NHS and the surrounding pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

With a commercial background including successfully owning and managing a number of private businesses before becoming a lecturer and researcher at Newcastle Business School in the disciplines of Strategic Management and Business Modelling. In 2005 Julian moved into the healthcare sector as a senior performance manager at Newcastle PCT and was also a lead commissioner for cancer services. His breadth of knowledge and foundation of expertise gives him the insight from the other side of the fence of how things get done in the NHS.

Key target areas delivered for the PCT included:

• Delivery of the 4 hour A&E wait
• Category A and B targets for the Ambulance Service
• Cancer waiting times targets and the Health Care Acquired Infections (HCAI) reductions for MRSA and CDiff

Since the inception of Practice Based Commissioning (PBC) in 2005 Clarity Healthcare Consulting has supported a number of PBC groups around the country by:

• Establishing performance and monitoring systems
• Writing business cases
• Forming PBC groups and developing their structures
• Forming, leading and delivering work stream projects
• Delivering maximum possible returns from PBC incentive schemes and freed up resources from indicative budgets.

In 2011, Julian founded Clarity Healthcare Consulting and continues to provide:

• Management support to NHS Newcastle West CCG, as he has done since 2008
• First hand insider insight to how the NHS works and interpretations of policies at conferences around Europe
• Internal briefings to pharmaceutical companies
